Playing with Red Bull BPM for a couple days now, it's really a neat app. The learning curve is a little steep if you're not familiar with standard turntable or mixing interfaces or terminology, but if you're good at fiddling around with buttons and trying things out, you can pick it up within an hour.

I think the real fun comes when you actually play music for your friends and family at a BBQ or house party and create awesome mixes from your iPad or iPhone.

The BPM experience on iPad is great because buttons are easy to see and tap. On iPhone, I can see that it would be a little difficult to get fancy with fading and mixing if you have fat fingers like me.

All in all, a very cool app. A little steep at $23.99 for the average person, but for the professional DJ, money well spent.

I'd probably recommend the lite version if you want to play around and upgrade if you find it useful or fun to mix beats.

Good luck and have fun!

johngarcia I can see what you are saying about the $$$ but I did a demo at Macworld for TUAW on Algoriddims djay that cost $20 bucks as a pseudo toy DJ program and this is way better. (http://youtu.be/9GN23pYeZjc?hd=1) It understands my Serato metadata has many professional features as well as a bunch more for the regular backyard BBQ or house party host. I can so see myself using the wireless feature to rock a small house party or tweetup.... in the Coworking space :).It works just as well from the iPhone/iPod Touch at $9.99 (http://bit.ly/kRIHdd)

About Shawn "Doc Rock" Boyd

Raised on the East Coast, Doc came to Hawaii soon after graduating high school. Doc has been involved in technology since getting his first set of tools as a Christmas present at age 5. Since climbing out from behind the Genius Bar at Apple you now will most likely find Doc waxing rhapsodically on the virtues of saké, good food, soccer, super-cars and camera gear.
