The writers, photographers and editors that produced Metromix Honolulu have collaborated to launch Nonstop Honolulu, a locally owned and produced site that covers eating, nightlife and events on Oahu.
Our plan is to stay on top of the most-buzzed-about eateries, parties and events on the island, and to provide comprehensive coverage with photo galleries, video, blogs and venue listings. We’ll have new content every day, including food galleries, party pics and extensive event listings. Our goal is to be Honolulu’s primary source for event information, including everything from concerts to parties to food events and tweetups. Whatever cool is happening in town, we’ll be on top of it.
Born and raised on Oahu, Catherine E. Toth has been chronicling her adventures in her blog, The Daily Dish (www.thecatdish.com), for four years. She worked as a newspaper reporter in Hawaii for 10 years and continues to freelance — in between teaching journalism full time at Kapiolani Community College, hitting the surf and eating everything in sight — for national and local print and online publications.
Pastry chef Ed Morita has spent the last 10 years working at some of the best resorts and restaurants in the country. He has since applied his knowledge and experience gained from working at the Halekulani Hotel, The Greenbrier Resort & Spa, Bay Harbor Yacht Club, and Longhi’s Restaurant Ala Moana into his new career as a freelance food writer, photographer and blogger. Formerly one of the food writers at The Honolulu Advertiser’s honolulu.metromix.com, Ed is currently the Social Media Photography Captain for the Neil Abercrombie campaign. You can follow Ed’s food adventures online at bakershours.com.
Melissa Chang has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and public relations and is currently a freelance writer and independent marketing consultant, specializing in social media. Previously with Metromix Honolulu, she discovered new places with new people and revealed the best places on Oahu to get fried chicken, shave ice, and manapua. In what little spare time she has, she gets a run in to try and work off what she’s eating — and has completed 17 marathons around the world.
Tracy Chan is a night owl who loves chronicling Honolulu’s vibrant nightlife scene through photography and the written word.
The former Metromix Associate Producer (currently a freelance photographer and writer), she is a journalism major from the University of Hawaii, a body constantly in motion, and a pro at steering inebriated partygoers.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, John is a digital designer specializing in web, photo, video and social media. John is currently digital designer for The Kamehameha Schools and is formerly Supervisor of Digital Design for The Honolulu Advertiser. With over 10 years of experience in the digital business, John is constantly searching for ways to innovate through creative design. John will oversee creative direction and technical operations for Nonstop Online, LLC.
Diane Seo was the managing producer of Metromix Honolulu. She also oversaw the TGIF entertainment section of The Honolulu Advertiser. Prior, she was the managing director of new media for the ATP, which runs men’s professional tennis worldwide, a senior editor at Salon.com and a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times. A native of Honolulu, she wants Nonstop to be a high-quality, fun and technologically innovative online guide for all the fun things happening on Oahu.
Mari Taketa is a dedicated eater who’s as opinionated as she is hungry. She covered everything from neighborhood mom-and-pop places to ethnic eateries to fine dining restaurants on Honolulu’s dining scene for Metromix Honolulu and The Honolulu Advertiser’s TGIF. Before that, she ate her way through Vietnam, Scotland and Japan, where she lived, traveled or worked, after recovering from a journalism career that included stints as editor-in-chief of Hawaii Business magazine and reporter and editor at The Associated Press. Her goals are to always be hungry for more, and to always want to know what’s around the next corner.
