Dozens of people interested in securing units at The Collection — a new Kaka‘ako housing complex being developed by A&B Properties — lined up Friday in an Ala Moana Boulevard parking lot, a day before the units actually go on sale.
On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. prospective condo owners will be able to reserve specific units at the sales office at 680 Ala Moana Boulevard. With demand so strong for the relatively affordable high-rise housing, interested buyers (all of whom must be owner/occupants) started waiting under a tent as early as 3:30 a.m. Friday.
A total of 397 one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums will be available for purchase in the 43-story tower, with prices starting from $398,000 for one bedrooms, $563,000 for two bedrooms and $745,000 for three bedrooms. The Collection, located at 600 Ala Moana Boulevard in the old Comp USA lot, also will include 15 three-bedroom town homes (with attached parking garages) and studios in an adjacent mid-rise structure, but sales are currently centered on the high-rise condos. Overall, The Collection is part of Kamehameha Schools’ master plan for Kaka‘ako. The project is expected to break ground sometime next year and be completed in late 2016.
Richard Stack, senior vice president of development for A&B Properties (a subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin), says target buyers are local residents, perhaps on the younger side. “During our market studies, we found that because of the activities happening in the neighborhood, like Night Market, the neighborhood is drawing younger people. So we’ve tried to keep the prices down. The units are a little smaller than other condos, but they’re still modern bright and high quality.”
Here’s a look at what The Collection will look like, inside and out.
