Brian Lo's Art Reception (1 of 14)
Digital artist Brian Lo started the body of work for his "In Between States" gallery a few years ago. He collected photos off his friends' pages on Myspace and Facebook, and distorted them. "They're about people, mostly," he said. "Interpersonal relationships, detachment and multitasking... all part of the digital culture that we experience together in the modern age."
Brian, who was born in Taiwan and studied in Alaska and New York before moving to Hawaii, did this project partly for his MFA thesis at UH Manoa.

Grammy-winning artists Nas and Damian Marley put on their first-ever show together in Hawaii to a huge crowd at Kakaako Waterfront Park Saturday. The two performed songs that each are known for, like Nas's "Hip Hop is Dead" and "One Mic" and Damian's iconic "Welcome to Jamrock" and "Road to Zion," as well as songs from their new collaboration album, "Distant Relatives."

FLUX Hawaii and local artist Silas Stoddard hosted a reception for a new art installment at Hotel Renew in Waikiki Thursday evening. The reception featured the introduction of Hotel Renew's new cocktails menu and tacos from the Gogi Korean Tacos truck, with DJ Davey Shindig on the turntables.
If you didn't make it to the reception, Silas' art will be on display until March 30.

With live painting all night at Fresh Cafe's newly remodeled Loft in Space and music by local and visiting DJs, the show attracted lots of people involved with the local art scene, as well as some international visitors and celebrities like Grace Park from "Hawaii Five-0" and rapper Donnis.

What was Spread the Word?
It was the first look (and taste) of an annual event thrown by Real Word. Magazine, as a way to showcase local arts and cuisine. Think kind of like First Friday, only in a conference hall, and with fantastic food. Real Word. Magazine is a publication launched one year ago (the event was their first anniversary party) to give voice to local artists, poets, and people with stories to tell.
