The 10th annual Spam Jam took over Kalakaua Avenue on Saturday, with dozens of crazy and creative Spam dishes and live entertainment on two stages. The celebration of Hawaii’s favorite processed meat started off hot and thronged, but crowds were loving the eats and live music.
Evening brought cool breezes, Society of Seven, Henry Kapono and Manoa DNA. The count this year: 30,000 locals and visitors, up 10 percent from last year and the biggest count ever for Spam Jam.
OnoPops sold out, as did P.F. Chang’s, Doraku, Okonomiyaki Chibo and all 2012 Spam Jam T-shirts. Manoa DNA closed out the night with an encore for a crowd that didn’t want to go home. All in all, Spam Jam totally rocked Waikiki.
