T.J.Maxx opens in Honolulu

Nonstop’s fashion writer Tyson Joines gets a sneak peek at the new T.J.Maxx Ward

Before T.J. Maxx opened in the Ward area this morning, the media was invited Wednesday to a private luncheon and informal fashion show at Buca di Beppo. T.J.Maxx Style Expert and self proclaimed “Maxxinista” Alison Deyette was on hand to break the products and price points down for us.

Deyette — who lends her style advice to “The View,” “The Today Show” and “How Do I Look?” — selected merchandise and compared T.J.Maxx’s prices to regular department stores. I left the luncheon with a Rebecca Minkoff gold leather laptop bag, after guessing the price correctly in a contest. Original price in other department stores: $250; the T.J.Maxx price, $139.99. Score!

When lunch was finished, we all walked over to the actual store to get a sneak peak of the retail space. It was my first time inside of a T.J.Maxx, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was quickly in shock and quite flabbergasted at the quality and the name-brand designers that the store carried.

Within the first couple feet of the entry doors, I came across Marc Jacobs, Fendi, YSL, Chloe and Ralph Lauren to name a few. I was only able to stay for a few minutes, but after taking a quick gander around the store, I already knew that I would become their next Maxxinista.
