New eats: Yakitori Glad

Yakitori Glad

When I saw this place, I almost canceled this review.

I'd jumped too fast. Giddy at the discovery that an Osaka-based chain of 13 yakitori restaurants was opening its first overseas location on Kapahulu on Jan. 22, I waited a full half-day before throwing it out there as Nonstop's latest open-invite review. Now I had 10 people coming to eat ... here?

Get a grip, Mar. You see the sign in the window? $3.90 per menu item, and that includes food and drink. Yakitori is the essence of cheap eats. Grilled chicken on sticks, served with huge bottles of ripping sake, yakitori is street food you grab on your way home, at humble counters or streetside carts even, places where there's nothing between you and the cold winter air except fresh-grilled chicken and alcohol warming your belly.

Humble is IT. The review is on.

nonstopmari , this was 100% awesome sauce. Can't wait for the meet & eat. *will someplace new and as exciting as Glad open already*

I still want to break the rules and ask for (extra) dipping sauces. Great to meet everyone and put a person & appetite to the icon. john sy konaish melissa808 honhiguy Maile, Mel, Annoddah_Dave @michTmon & Kaori.

ThomasOhhhjohn sykonaishmelissa808honhiguyAnnoddah_DavemichTmon extra sauces? that wd have solved the problems of tsukune cheese and renkon. in fact, the thot of tsukune cheese w/ that citrusy ponzu-shoyu sauce is making me salivate. fantastic idea, thomasohhh!

Thanks for arranging the yakitori meetup Mari. As with other dinners you've arranged, it was great fun!

Glad we got to try so many different menu items. All in all, it was a great deal, we left full and we even got bowed out to the sidewalk! It was a memorable evening.

konaish thnx for coming! i'm not sure i've ever been bowed out to the sidewalk before. they stood there bowing until we turned the corner. :>

I like the cheese one too...not Top 3 good, but I'd order it again.

And yeah, drinks were pretty weak. Good thing I stuck to beer.

Thanks for setting this up Mari!

That was a good little outing! I would go again to try other stuff. IMHO best to go in a big group so you can try more things. ps I liked the tsukune cheese, just didn't love it.

nonstopmari 245 pts moderator

Melissa808 small grp is good too as long as they're good eaters, bc then u can eat everything while it's steaming-hot and not wait for plates to be passed down. tsukune cheese, really?

EO: Thanks for the invite. I slept like a baby...fuud was guud and those that you told readers to pass on I agree. Yeah, service was spotty...with the place so crowded, the smoke tended to dry the eyes and we smelled like chicken going home. TIP to customers...do not plan on going to the Symphony after eating here. You will smell like chicken! Octoberfest will be best especially if you do the "Chicken Dance"!

Annoddah_Dave i was w/ u until the last sentence ... ???!
