I didn't realize this at the time, but Mari wanted to review this place with me because she thought I'd be mortified to eat there. You see, I'm a dainty eater (very different from Mari's style), and she thought I wouldn't want to eat with my hands. Surprise, surprise. —Photo by Melissa Chang

...I love you guys! There seriously is an art to eating crab, though... how long did it take you guys to get through that pile of crab legs and crawfish? Also, Mari, next time you go, let me know! Looks like a lot of fun for us gals with short hair! :-P

So taking Mari's advice on the "grip issue", I guess when we bring sake for dinner we should just drink it straight out of the bottle? Might get some funny looks though ...

Melissa808 268 pts moderator

sakeshop IMHO you might want to bring a sake glass that flares at the lip, so there's no grip issue....although when you grab the bottle, it will make it dirty. Second piece of advice: Finish the bottle!

sakeshop 12 pts

Melissa808 Truth be told, I like the idea of using "grip issues" as an excuse to drink straight out of the bottle.  Finishing the bottle(s) was never in question!  Funny, I think this might be another one to pair with your beloved Narutotai sake ... and maybe I won't look as funny drinking from a large can as opposed to a large bottle.

sakeshop  Melissa808 do what u did at the snout-to-tail dinner: bring heavy, rough ceramics to drink from. and i agree re the sweet narutotai to pair w/ the garlicky spice :)

Melissa808 268 pts moderator

sakeshop I guess I better go back with some Narutotai!

Delicate Blossom and EO:  This one is a classic M&M eats!  I laughed and laughed.  I frankly didn't care if the fuud was any guud or not.  Yes, the pix on the piles of shells says a lot.  You are definitely a Delicate Blossom!  EO is full on carnivore!  I like when you point out stuff about her and EO pays no attention and just continues on...LOL.  Did you mention whether they had degrees of spiciness?

Melissa808 268 pts moderator

Annoddah_Dave I don't recall, but yes, you can order the degree of spiciness that you prefer. And I'm a carnivore, too! I just eat in a more civilized manner. And I don't waste.

turkfontaine 202 pts

in my early Houston years we had to go over to plaquemines parish if we wanted crawdads. in later years, when Houston became westminster on the gulf they were available in galveston , lamarque, texas city and pasadena. 'bite they lil heads off an suck out da fat'. i've always wondered if 'mud bugs' lived in rivers all over the world or just in the american south. fo sho they ain' no kingkrab legs lak dat in louisianne

Melissa808 268 pts moderator

turkfontaine I liked having more than just the crawdads, for contrast. Funny how all the seafood meats were very distinctive in flavor!

nonstopmari 245 pts moderator

Melissa808  turkfontaine we used to play w/ crayfish in streams growing up here. they were tiny compared to these suckers, which i hear are small compared to what u get on the mainland

CAPSUN 28 pts

I love going to these kinds of places on the mainland. Now that I know we've got one right down the street from home, I've got to try it.

CAPSUN Don't forget to let me know!!

After two visits to this place, I'm addicted. That garlic-butter sauce, plus the lemon-salt-pepper mix, could literally make any type of seafood taste great.

Melissa808 268 pts moderator

DianeSeo I'm wondering if I should bring my own limes next time (instead of lemons) to see how that tastes!

nonstopmari 245 pts moderator

Melissa808  DianeSeo me too. 2x in 5 days. and thank god u're messier than me

nonstopmari Yes no one ever called me a neat or delicate eater
