Eat the Street: Garlic Fest

Yes, there were garlic pops. And garlic coconut mochi, garlic frog legs, garlic steak, garlic shrimp and anything and everything else garlic

Phew! Could you smell it?

Eat the Street Garlic Fest got under way Friday night in Kakaako, 45 trucks and street food vendors out in force with every incarnation of garlic imaginable … and some unimaginable. Yes, coconut garlic butter mochi. Yes, garlic frog legs. Yes, garlic ice cream and ice pops. And yes, garlic shrimp, garlic fries, garlic fried rice, you name it.

Crowds came out in force too, making this one of the best Eat the Streets of the year and on par with the epic ETS Bacon of two months ago. Sold out signs for hot items went up early, but even at the finish time of 9 p.m. eaters still lingered, and trucks and vendors obliged all appetites.

Missed it? Sit tight: Last Friday of July, the 27th, is Eat the Street Spicy, right here on the same block at South and Halekauwila streets. Busy? Head for Eat the Street Kapolei, happening on July 14.

And if you were with us in Kakaako Friday night, we hope for the sake of those around you that you remembered the breath mints.
