Eat the Street debut: Tiki Truck

One of 10 newbies tonight, with pulehu and jerk chicken tacos, and stanky corn

By Mari Taketa on May 27, 2011

You heard, right? Tonight’s the night for Eat the Street May, THE most happening event for street food in Honolulu. ETS v5 brings to Kakaako 33 trucks and vendors, 10 of them new, with a lineup that introduces ETS’ first-ever street foods from Asia.

First, your courtesy 411.

When: Friday, May 27 from 4-9 p.m.
Where: 555 South St. in Kaka’ako (at Halekauwila, kitty-corner from Restaurant Row)
Admission: Free
Parking: On-site and street parking
Organizer: StreetGrindz.com (Poni Askew), partnering with Kamehameha Schools, Kamehameha Schools Malama Card and Nonstop Honolulu
Menu:Here’s what’s on the menu for all the trucks

Now for the newbie list. We’ll be on the lookout for awesome kaffir lime Thai fried chicken (Achilles Grill), grilled pork belly sticks (da ala cart), Cuban steak sammies (Da Jammin Wagon), supa garlicky shrimp (Grandma G’s Kitchen), string cheese waffles (Hawaiian Waffle Dog Co.), sushi handrolls (Local Boy Sushi), pink peppercorn dark chocolate (Madre Chocolate Tricycle), manapua (Ocean Dim Sum), coconut snow (Snow Factory), and that’s not all.

Also in the new column is Tiki Truck, creation of a traveling chef-turned-mortgage broker. Watch the video to meet Abe Jazmmin and see his food. And for quick closeups, check out the photo gallery below.
