Vegas: Drink & Drag

We celebrated a birthday in Vegas at one of downtown’s newest and biggest drag queen bars

Kicking off Matt's birthday celebration

As I do every year at this time, I vacationed in Las Vegas — it’s a good way to escape the holidays as a singleton, and spend time with my second family, the Yoneyamas. Just two weeks prior, our twitter friend Matthew Erickson (@LhccMatt) and Rob Ola Kawaa (@RobOlaKawaa) had moved from Maui to Vegas, so we spent time with them, as well.

It was a reunion of sorts, as Julie Yoneyama (@JulieYakacoco), Matt, and Tioni Taylor (@TioniTaylor) — who works at the Golden Nugget — all worked together at Old Lahaina Luau at one time. It was good timing, too, as it was Matt’s birthday. What could we do with Matt that would be oh-so-Vegas? Celebrate at a big drag queen bar, of course.

Drink & Drag (2 of 23)

Drink & Drag

The banner from the second floor has a blaring "Drag queens! Lots of them!" There are 18 queens officially on the roster, but you may see more when you go.

Here’s the video of the “Cell Block Tango” as performed by the ladies of Drink & Drag:

turkfontaine did you notice how beautiful some of them were? So glamorous. Even the gogo dancers are at a standard that men aspire to be.

I miss bowling alleys. all there is left (on O'ahu) is Leeward Bowl, Aiea Bowl, Pali Lanes and Barber's Point Bowling Center.

Love it ! RuPaul would be so proud. They would fit in with his Drag Race reality tv show/contest.

 KevinSOshiro indeed!

Delicate Blossom:  Reminiscent of "The Glades" here in Honolulu.  It was quite a show...of course, in those days, the queens did not have a lot of the stuff they use now to enhance their "illusion".  Modern meds are amazing.  Some of them put real women to shame.  The pictures of the ones in Thailand are unbelievable.  I hope I never get drunk enough to go through "The Crying Game"!  The shows of "La Cage" and "Priscilla" are good enough.

Annoddah_Dave Oh my gosh! I do remember The Glades, although it was around when I was a kid. These guys were beautiful......

Love it! I went to a place like that in SF called Asia SF and had a blast. They workers there were called "gender illusionists" and were pretty hot, considering they were dudes. LOL And they would get up on the bar and do the dancing as well. Super good time!

MyongChoi LOL yes! That's what they are called on the Drink & Drag site, "illusionists."
