Vegas: Downtown Cocktail Room, revisited

Some of the most creative handcrafted cocktails are found at this hidden downtown gem

No trip to Vegas is complete without a spin on Megabucks, a Bellagio fountain show, or at least one drink at the Downtown Cocktail Room. As mentioned last year, the Fremont Street East district — a redeveloped area just past the Fremont Street Experience — is filled with bars, clubs, and cafes, new sidewalks, landscaping and neon signs that reminiscent of Sin City’s original glory days. The area was redone to attract Vegas locals, not tourists, so it’s a nice respite from the excessive largeness and lights of the casinos.

One of our favorite bars there is the Downtown Cocktail Room, which is known for its seasonal, hand-crafted cocktails. Each season, the bartenders experiment with new drinks and the official menu is decided by committee. Once the season ends, you never see the cocktails on the menu again, and the mixologists keep churning out new creations.

Here are some of this season’s cocktails, which you can still try until the season changes (around March). Each cocktail has a level rating of one to five, depending on complexity. If you’re just here for Heineken or a lava flow, keep moving along, buddy.

So help me, I must have had too much to drink because I can't remember what this was. I think it was a Martinez, with Old Tom gin, sweet vermouth, and orange bitters. It was reminiscent of very old school cocktails from the Rat Pack days.

Delicate Blossom:  This don't look like "fruuh fruuh" drinks.  Some look like they would grow hair on your chest!  I wonder if any of these creations are "trademarked"?  Is there such a thing?

Annoddah_Dave yes, not very foofy....and all quite strong! Not for people who like simple drinks (although they can do that).
