It’s kind of a sensitive subject for some of us, but — hey, we all have grandparents, right? — I want to talk to you about helping Lanakila Pacific Meals on Wheels, to help our kupuna.

Last year, Lanakila Pacific experimented with this synchronized dining event, and it was so popular, they’re doing it again. At 6 p.m. on October 7, about 70 restaurants across Oahu will serve special feasts for an exclusive table in their establishments. In fact, the dishes that each restaurant has developed for the event will feature items not regularly found on their menus. Here are some shots from last year:

How can you participate? Easy: Just visit www.thegoodtablehawaii.org and go to “Buy a Table.” You can bid on tables of six (at $2500) or tables of four (at $200) at the restaurants listed in each category. When you go to the site, you’ll see six categories of tables (three categories are already sold out!). The bidding works like Priceline.com in that you know what restaurants are in each category, but you don’t know which restaurant you’ve gotten till they tell you on September 30.

Now, before you balk at the prices at all, remember, you can split the cost with three other friends! So at the low end, dinner comes out to $50 per person for a very exclusive meal. And besides, the proceeds go to help feed our kupuna.
