San Francisco: Playing tourist

I’ve been to San Francisco before, but my friends haven’t. Here’s a day of touristy fun

My travel companions, Lena Hanson (@LenaHanson) and Edwina Minglana (@Eminglana) have never been to San Francisco before, so we decided to hit some touristy spots when they landed. Here are some things a Hawaii first-timer might do in San Francisco:

San Francisco: Ono Grindz (1 of 38)

San Francisco: Ono Grindz

Hawaii ex-pats were sad to hear that Hukilau closed in San Francisco last year, but found solace in Ono Grindz opening on Clement (in San Francisco's "second Chinatown"). Although the food isn't totally local, it's definitely a fusion of flavors to appeal to both Hawaii and mainland palates.

Delicate Blossom:  Is the real reason for going is to shop and eat?

Annoddah_Dave I always shop & eat in SF! That's a given. But I go there for an event.

i do miss the food, but not the weather. i had cold feet for the whole ten years i lived there. Mark Twain once said "the coldest winter i've ever spent was summer in San Francisco". look at you guys, bundled up like ski lodge bunnies. are you going to Japan Town? see it before it disappears, if only for the fun of watching big strapping Norwegian midwestern blond girls dressed up Harajuku style get off the bus to go to their Maid Cafe jobs. if you have time to tunnel under the bay to Oakland, i recommend Le Cheval on Clay st. for good Viet/French
