Preview: YWCA’s Downtown Decadence

Here’s a sneak peek at some food and fashion you’ll see at the YWCA’s biggest event next week

One of the YWCA of Oahu’s biggest events is next week: Downtown Decadence - Persimmon & Posh. This year promises to be more fabulous than ever, with endless racks of glamorous dresses — many designer labels, and many with the tags still on — starting at $20. Even if you’re not there to shop, you can enjoy pupus from Cafe Julia, a live auction and door prizes, and a dessert and wine silent auction.

It’s a pretty big deal, so I thought I should give you a little preview so you can see what it’s all about. One of the side benefits to this (or almost any YWCA event), which people don’t necessarily talk about, is the opportunity to network with some of the most well-connected women in town. On the fashion side, event co-chair Wendy Chang let me take a peek at one of the many racks of dresses they’ll be selling.

There are also fitting rooms at the event, so you can try the dresses on at your leisure.

I also got to try three of the pupu that chefs Lance Kosaka and Christian Panganiban have created for the evening (don’t worry, there’s more — I caught them as they were coming off the lunch rush, so they whipped these up as fast as they could). I haven’t been able to eat at Cafe Julia yet, but everyone watching me try these items were seething with jealousy. Here’s their descriptions:

I couldn’t video myself trying the dishes, so here are some close ups:

bettydalycity OMG! I keep forgetting about Moon Festival. I better go to Sing Cheong Yuan to get some moon cake (salt egg, of course). Glad you got your Eastern Bakery goodies! Their moon cakes are so good.
