It’s that time of year again! Time to dodge the ex-boyfriends, brave the crowds, and get to Kapiolani Park to get my annual fill of the best andagi in the world. That’s right, it’s the Okinawan Festival 2010.
I usually go on Sunday, but this year, my neighbor Amber confessed that she had never been to the Oki Fest or had an andagi in her life. So before the food ran out, we carved out some time yesterday to make sure we got our fill.
Here are just a few things we got to try:
I have a few more scrips, so I may go back today to eat anything I may have missed.
This was the first time I got to see the bon dance, one of the highlights of the Okinawan Festival. The food booths close up by 6 p.m. and everyone gathers for one of the biggest bon dances of the year. It was hard to get shots of people from the outside, because they’re all facing in. So just for you, my dear readers, I ran into the middle of the bon dance (right near the yagura, or tower) and risked getting knocked out by the drummers to show you what the action looks like.
If you’d like to catch the last day of the Okinawan Festival, they’ll be at Kapiolani Park today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Maybe I’ll see you in line for andagi!

Wow it looked like a really good turn out. It keeps getting bigger every year. I could really go for some andagi right now.
