New(ish) eats: Cactus Bistro

We checked out Cactus Bistro in Kailua to see what local interpretations of South American cuisine are like

Dinner at Cactus

Kailua residents have been delighted to see innovative new restaurants popping up on their side of the Pali, like Prima and The Grove. Judging from the crowds that spill out of these places every night, Kailua has been more than ready to embrace these hotspots, whose menus would do well in metro Honolulu, as well. We finally got some eaters together to try the newest of these — Cactus, which features "flavors, culinary traditions and techniques from Central and South America as well as Cuba, Puerto Rico and Mexico."

It's nice having a place with different choices than the usual Honolulu fare. I liked that our group was big enough so we got to sample a little of each dish.   The food was great ~ I'd go back to try Cactus again.

It's been a long time since we've gone out on one of these group dinners and liked just about everything. I wasn't really expecting to like so many things. Definitely worth a drive to Kailua if you like this type of food or are interested in trying it. And yes, despite my attempt to eat a vegetarian entree that night, I did love those shortribs.

All the dishes looked really appetizing! Per @nonstopmari 's request, I think Watarebune 55 Junmai Ginjo & Denshin Ine Junmai  sake would be good choices to pair with what looked to be creamy, juicy, fatty, slow roasted, stewed deliciousness! Although, Cactus Bistro looked very well stocked with their own drinks =)
