Where has the time gone? HASR Bistro opened in October, but we haven’t had the chance to eat there until recently. With the holiday rush and all, it was always in the back of our minds to make a point to get there, but we’re glad we finally did. And, we don’t feel so bad for our timing, since owner Terry Kakazu has also been so busy, the grand opening party was last night.
Terry owns HASR Wine Co. next door, so if you BYOB from there, corkage is waived. She also still owns Terry’s Place, that unpretentious hole-in-the-wall karaoke bar in the Chinese Cultural Plaza with the amazing food and (of course) wine. Rodney Uyehara, formerly with the Beach House at the Moana, is the executive chef, so you know it’s going to be good. Note that although it’s a bistro and has an underlying French theme, the menu is cosmopolitan.

Overall assessment: We think HASR lives up to the hype, and we were surprised that we liked (really, really liked) just about everything on the menu. Usually, there are items that aren't so great, but our visits there make it exciting to return. Also, if you like the HASR wines, this is a great way to make an evening of tasting.
Here are some shots from last night’s grand opening party:

Delicate Blossom: I see that the Pernod sauce with the escargot...was that guud? I am a fan of Pernod and love escargot...but together, have not tried it. Did it have the anise flavor?
