Hawaii: In Real Life ~ Spooky Kine Investigations

Who’s afraid of that ghost? Not these guys

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a bit of a ghost magnet. For a while, the paranormal activity in my life was a lot more active than it is now, but it’s always there, hovering in the background, depending on who in my life has passed on (or comes back to visit).

So recently, when the Mission Houses Museum brought the guys from Spooky Kine Investigations for their monthly program (complete with ghost stories and an exclusive tour), I was a little apprehensive about going. On one hand, I didn’t want to interact with or activate any of the spirits living at the Mission Houses. On the other hand, I’d been dying to meet these guys (pun intended) since I’d first heard about them. They’re the Hawaii version of Ghost Hunters, in every sense of the concept.

Given the rich cultural history and mix of Hawaii, the guys at Spooky Kine Investigations approach their work with a different mindset. They’re sensitive to the cultural origins of their subjects and resolving situations in an appropriate manner.

Keep in mind, there’s science behind the art, so it’s not all about dealing with fear and hypothesis. They use equipment to measure and track energy fields, and their scientist/technician, Matt, brings an element of skepticism to the investigations to help explain some results in more measurable, tangible terms.

I did go to the Mission Houses to meet these guys, and we took a tour of Levi Chamberlain’s home office. We encountered a very old spirit, who asked us to leave. Don’t believe me? Check out this video (wait till the end).

In the safety of light and other people, I talked to the guys. Here’s a quick look at them and their work, and a tip on why you shouldn’t answer when you hear a spirit calling your name.

Want to hear more? They got some stories. Check them out on HawaiiIRL.com, and how you can hire them for your own investigation.

In the part 2 video, there is a noise at around 5:08. Maybe an EVP?

wahiawaboy hey, thanks for your comment about the video on www.hawaiiirl.com. parkrat went to check it out, heard it, is freaked out, and I am NOT going to click on the link!!!!! He played it back for me over the phone (note, he's the camera man, so he would have heard it during recording) and yeah....no more ghost tours for me. Gah!

did the green light mean no presence? i think u shd tell UR stories, like when u were housesitting and saw a little girl in the window, or that time in paris (la samaritaine?) when an unseen hand whopped u in the head.

Melissa808 268 pts

nonstopmari The green light meant "no." When the spirit wanted to say "yes," he lit up the thing to orange.

No no I have never seen anything with my two eyes. The girl in the window was a teenager. I knew she was there but I never saw her....someone else did, later. But yes, have I got stories!

nonstopmari lol......I want to head about the time she got whopped in her head. I thought the Mission House investigation was going to be spookier. But glad it wasn't cause I watched the video LATE at night, and alone!

Melissa808 268 pts

kamaka_hawaii nonstopmari Actually, I wasn't whopped, but something definitely pushed my head, hard.

I confess: I didn't watch it 'til the end. Because you told me to. And now I don't want to! :P

Melissa808 268 pts

Cat bwahahaa. Actually, it was much spookier in person, especially because I could FEEL that we weren't welcome downstairs before the session even began!

Melissa808 Cat wow....what did that feel like? None of you heard any voices?

Melissa808 268 pts

kamaka_hawaii Cat I can't hear voices.
