Dinner at Kimukatsu

There’s a new katsu place in town, the first in Hawaii from a chain in Japan

Overall, it does seem pricey, but once you get the food and taste the work behind it, you'll probably feel it's worth it. Myong, in fact, liked it so much, he went back a few nights later. They do realize that it's kind of high for lunch and are working on a more reasonable lunch menu.

Thanks for the insider info on the off-the-menu garlic katsu - I'm gonna order that next time!

Delicate Blossom:  "picky and cheap"?  This place appears to have Waikiki type prices...more of a special occasion place for us locals.  Is the katsu really worth it?  MC thinks so since he went back for more.  But over 50 stones for two and potato salad is a bit stiff.  Call me cheap.

Annoddah_Dave I thought it was pretty worth it....definitely more worth it than Bairin. But depending on your budget, can be more special occasion kine.

Yup, I do love Kimukatsu! My favorites were the potato salad, the black pepper katsu, and the demi-glace katsu. Actually, my real favorite was the garlic katsu but when I went back a few nights later they didn't offer it. In fact, the waiter didn't even know about it and it was the manager who told me that it may eventually find its way on to the menu in a few months.

I don't think it's too pricey. I ordered the 3 katsu sampler combo for 2 people when I went back along with an order of potato salad and the total was a little over $50 including tip and we were super full. So not too bad. Plus, BYOB for now! Woohoo!

MyongChoi I forgot about the BYOB for now! So I guess we better go back, pronto!
