Chinee like me: dinner at Moon Garden

The secret Chinese Dinner Society got together for its monthly meeting, this time at Moon Garden

The secret Chinese Dinner Society got together for its monthly meeting, this time to induct new members into the fold. One of our newest members is Nonstop’s very own Tracy Chan, and she mentioned that she wanted to eat really good, traditional winter melon soup. So off we went to Moon Garden, which is known for this banquet treat.

Chinee like me: Moon Garden

Of course, to end dinner and wish Bixby a happy birthday, we had my favorite: e-mein. These were good, but not light and fluffy like other places.

After all that eating, here were our favorites of the evening (apparently Jennifer is making a witty joke in Chinese that I can’t understand):

Our verdict? Moon Garden is a hidden gem for Chinese dining, especially with their classic winter melon soup and special curry oysters. I’m also a big fan of Chinese restaurants with friendly service, so this place gets big ups from me. Stay tuned for our next meal, which is either going to be dim sum or some secret spot that Bixby says is getting unusually rave reviews. In the meantime, click here to see and hear one of the subjects our secret society talked about during the evening.

We went there last Tuesday. Was packed, although its easy to pack the place cause its small. Food was good but service was slow because of the amount of takeouts.

The funny thing was the "al fresco" dining. A family tried to get in but was too crowded so they decided to dine "al fresco" in a little table outside the restaurant with Vineyard pau hana traffic whizzing by.

I can't say enough how great this place is, it's small but yet quaint location. Parking is sort of a challenge but a little persistence goes a long ways. It is by far one of the better I think in my opinion outside of the Chinatown realm. Great job as always Melissa808

that winter melon soup looked like the giant subway dwelling alien monster in 'Men In Black'. i'll probably never get to see another one because i'm not a heathen Chinee, i'm a heathen Celtic pagan.

ps do you know why women like Chinese food so much? because WON TON spelled backwards is NOT NOW. White Power Ma told me that one on the par five 15th and made me double bogie the hole.

Melissa808 268 pts

turkfontaine this is true. All of it.

Loved it! The only thing about the wintermelon soup ordered traditional style is that if you have a party of less than 8 people, it's expeeensive... bixbyho told me once, but I forgot. If you have a big group, though, it's a really nice treat.

Melissa808 268 pts

chant808 bixbyho I did forget that it's expensive....

Melissa808 chant808 Yes, next time I'm going to find some random person from our twitter realm and tell them fill the seats!

That night was so much fun! Even though I normally do not like Chinese food, this place is one of my new favs. I like the oysters, winter melon soup, and the 8 treasures dish! Another fav is meeting my twin sister at the restaurant! :D BTW: I said, "I dont like Chinese food, but I like to come and spend time with you all" :D <3

Melissa808 268 pts

jlieu I think you actually do like Chinese food, but are attaching it to the traumatic memories and/or stigma of being Chinese. Been there! You'll grow out of it, with time.

Melissa808 Thank you Melissa! I sure hope so!!! :) See you at the next one!

Delicate Blossom: Wwhhaatt!? No rice at SCDS? Your Chinee ancestors rolling in grave at this sacrilege!

Melissa808 268 pts

Annoddah_Dave I was never much of a rice eater! Mo betta I don't order it, than waste.

jlieu 45 pts

Melissa808 Annoddah_Dave I agree- i hate rice- no need with all the yummy food we had! I am a noodle lover!

CAPSUN 28 pts

jlieu Melissa808 Annoddah_Dave Hate rice? I am shaking my Chinese/Japanese head at you both.

I'd like to point out that *I* ordered rice! :) I love rice and now that I'm not really supposed to eat it, I love using our dinners as an excuse to eat some.

CAPSUN 28 pts

Annoddah_Dave Oh yeah, and we're HiCDS (Hawaii Chinese Dinner Society). I guess it's not so secret that we talk about it. :)

BixbyHo 18 pts

Annoddah_Dave There were some who ordered rice. I'll tell you a little something, rice takes away from trying all of the dishes.
