Aloha Fukuoka! Nishijin Market, Robosquare, and Fukuoka Tower

While in Fukuoka, we visited its tallest structure to get breathtaking views of the city

Note: This event is a little out of order due to Wi-Fi connectivity challenges.

When you go to Paris, you should see the Eiffel Tower. When you visit Kuala Lumpur, you have to visit the Petronas Tower. And when you fly to Fukuoka, you need to go to Fukuoka Tower, the city’s tallest building, to take in 360-degree views of the surrounding area and Hakata Bay from 123 meters up. The tower is comprised of 8,000 half mirrors wrapped around a 234-meter structure. It supposedly can withstand a magnitude 7 earthquake (Japanese scale) and wind of up to 135 miles an hour.

If you look on a map, however, you won’t find a lot in the Fukuoka Tower area. It’s a quick subway ride from the main city center, but it still seems like a waste to go all that way just to see a tower. We recommend you at least add in a visit to Nishijin Market to have breakfast or lunch.

Visiting Nishijin Market

Val trying my scallop stick. A bit tough, but what do you expect for 150 yen?

We walked to the Tower from Nishijin, but it’s actually a pretty far walk. If you’re into the fitness thing, as we are, then no problem; if not, just take a cab. You’ll want to stop at the nearby RoboSquare to see what’s new. Admission is free and the interactive displays are quite amazing, like this robot samurai.

Be sure to make a quick visit to Robosquare near Fukuoka Tower. Admission is free!

The bento boxes are not bad looking.  When I was in college live on Jack N Box tacos for 2 for 1.00.  Those bentos will be not to fill me up and spend money on getting gifts for people.

bettydalycity oooh I remember the 2/$1 tacos! But yes, I couldn't believe how cheap these bentos were. If you're hungry....not bad.

My next trip to Japan will have to inclued Fukuoka.

M I would totally go back! If Tokyo = New York, we feel that Fukuoka = Chicago. Someone also mentioned it's like San Diego.

Delicate Blossom:  Like anywhere else, if you get to know the neighborhood, you can find cheap fuud.  Not gourmet stuff but enough to fill the belly.  I do not read or speak Japanese, but I would guess the sign on the street says to walk your bicycle during the busy times of 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Tenks for sharing, it is neat to travel this way in the comfort of your home and bathroom!
