Note: This event is a little out of order due to Wi-Fi connectivity challenges.
When you go to Paris, you should see the Eiffel Tower. When you visit Kuala Lumpur, you have to visit the Petronas Tower. And when you fly to Fukuoka, you need to go to Fukuoka Tower, the city’s tallest building, to take in 360-degree views of the surrounding area and Hakata Bay from 123 meters up. The tower is comprised of 8,000 half mirrors wrapped around a 234-meter structure. It supposedly can withstand a magnitude 7 earthquake (Japanese scale) and wind of up to 135 miles an hour.
If you look on a map, however, you won’t find a lot in the Fukuoka Tower area. It’s a quick subway ride from the main city center, but it still seems like a waste to go all that way just to see a tower. We recommend you at least add in a visit to Nishijin Market to have breakfast or lunch.
We walked to the Tower from Nishijin, but it’s actually a pretty far walk. If you’re into the fitness thing, as we are, then no problem; if not, just take a cab. You’ll want to stop at the nearby RoboSquare to see what’s new. Admission is free and the interactive displays are quite amazing, like this robot samurai.
