Aloha Brisbane! Cuddling koalas and more

The high point of any trip to Australia is meeting their koalas and kangaroos

As with every Hawaiian Airlines inaugural flight, there is a media day tour to show the highlights of the destination. When you go to Australia, if nothing else, you absolutely must go to a zoo that features all of the continent’s unique wildlife. Lone Pine is the place to go in Brisbane for cuddling koalas and feeding kangaroos.

Aloha Brisbane!

Everyone recommends you go to Lone Pine when you visit Brisbane. This was really the highlight of our trip, and you'll see why.

Want to see more? All of my photos from this day are in my Flickr album; click here to see them all. You can also see Cat’s blog (she’s already pau), here. Ed Sugimoto is trying to catch up to us, here.

Next up: Visiting the famous Gold Coast!

Hello Melissa!

Great pictures!

I lived in Brisbane for years. Graduated high school there. I prefer Australia Zoo - the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin's wildlife park. Lol @ Vegemite comes in all kinds of styles. There is only ONE Vegemite and it is made by Kraft foods. I prefer Vegemite but in desperate times, I have eaten the others (including the New Zealand equivalent MARMITE.) Those mashed potatoes looked as good as my mum's!

LouisaTei I didn't know that about you! Hope I get to visit you in Auckland next year!

Delicate Blossom:  LOL..Kangaroos look Japanese!  I bet you think koalas look Chinese, that's why you are cuddling one!?  Thanks for describing the koala scat...I did not realize they are pellets like rabbits.  Good thing Bagel did not have Montezuma's revenge!  Did you find out why you can touch the koalas at this place and not in other places in Australia?  I presume it is a trained thing otherwise they get all stressed out.

Annoddah_Dave No discrimination on faces! That's just what the activities are. I didn't know you can't touch koalas at other places, but I'm also assuming it's a trained thing. They have to designate specific koalas to do photo ops and get them ready.

Melissa808 Delicate Blossom:  According to CAT touching koalas is not allowed in NSW...that's what she said in her blog.
