Party pics: Pow Wow 2012 Opening Night

Pow Wow 2012′s opening night brought a week of painting around Kakaako to a close and brought the artists together for a grand finale

By Tracy Chan on February 19, 2012

Pow Wow 2012′s opening night on Saturday brought a week of painting around Kakaako to a close, for most of the 30+ artists from Honolulu and abroad who participated in the event.  While some worked on completing murals in Kakaako, the rest filled every blank space in Fresh Cafe’s warehouse with art. Also featured at opening night  was a photography exhibition titled “Day Job?” curated by Eugene Kan of Hypebeast, as well as a pop-up shop by Arkitip magazine.

At around 10 p.m., Pow Wow’s signature “black-out” piece ended the night: A canvas with work by several of the artists (the same canvas as last year, actually) was drenched in black paint until all trace of the art on it was covered up.
