Party pics: Electric Palms with Steve Aoki

The huge, hard-hitting electronica event, headlined by Island favorite Steve Aoki, took over Kakaako Park on Friday

Rockstar Energy Drink, Bamp Project, and Collective Effort Events teamed up for this huge, hard-hitting electronica event at Kakaako Park on Friday night, headlined by Island favorite Steve Aoki, who closed out the night, plus Kill the Noise, Felix Cartal, Ken Loi, Bayati & Cyrani and Boogie Monsters. We caught Aoki’s set from start to finish as the famous DJ put on his usual crazy show, sending an inflatable raft out into the audience, “caking” the VIP section with several big layer cakes, and spraying the crowd with water and champagne.

Much like Joah Buley’s coverage of this event, I read both blogs. My friend was working at the John Burns School of Medicine last night. He could hear the techno music playing outside. My roomate said that people behaved them selves and didn’t get crazy. I love your coverage ! I wonder if (Steve) Aoki dove into the crowd to do some (body) surfing or hang onto some lighting equipment.. Wish I was there…

@KevinSOshiro Hi Kevin! No, I don’t think there was any lighting equipment within reach, or he probably would have gone all monkey on it. Likewise for the inflatable raft surfing, he didn’t actually do it himself, although he did pull people out of the crowd and put them in the raft. The crowd was super excited, but very well contained… that show was probably one of the best ones I’ve been to all year!
