Don’t call it the “other” anime convention

Don’t call it the “other” anime convention. This weekend’s Oni-Con Hawaii attracted thousands of cosplayers, gamers, otakus, and fans of Japanese culture to the Hawaii Convention Center for three days of play. The convention, which runs through today, featured events, panel discussions, vendor booths, gaming rooms and live entertainment.

The headlining event was a concert by Nobuo Uematsu and his band, the Earthbound Papas, who are famous for composing music for the Final Fantasy video game series. Other highlights included autograph signings by industry celebrities, a fashion show and cosplay chess.
