Day two: the Audi R8 GT experience

Infineon Raceway is home to the Audi Sonoma Forum, where we’ll test drive Audi’s newest supercar

By John Garcia on June 20, 2011

As the sun came up on day two in Sonoma, an early wake up call was made and call time for my ride to Infineon Raceway was at 8:15 a.m.

A 30 minute drive from @BardessonoHotel, we arrived at the raceway, greeted by a line of brand new Audi models, including the R8 GT and the TT RS. According to our driving instructor, this was the only TT RS in North America.

Our day at the track was beginning. Here’s how it went down:

Driver's line up. I've never seen so many Audis in my life

Watch raw video from @InfineonRaceway as we raced both the R8 and the R8 GT.

Later that night, we were were taken to Artesa Winery in Napa for wine tasting and dinner. Check back tomorrow for part three of our trip to Sonoma.

INFINEON! where even the cows have lake pipes. i love to go to the vintage sports car event there. i get to see some of the old British cars i've owned and destroyed in my younger years.

do you know why the English don't make computers? they can't figure out how to make them leak oil

did u feel sick after eating that plate? i wd have done the same thing -- overeaten and sat out the races. and u're right, produce in those parts and up the pnw is so sweet it tastes like candy to me bc it's picked so much closer to ripeness and not while still green to survive shipping to us here :(

jmdc88 johngarcia Thanks for reading! You pretty much got every highlight of the trip so far. Winery post will be tomorrow. Other than that... my R8 GT experience is just a memory. :) Hope you get the chance one day soon!

johngarcia I'm waiting for @Audi to come visit me at home... nothing like attempting to drive in DC traffic! Granted, people would stop and and make way for us in an R8! :) #WantAnR8

johngarcia Not bad for a Volkswagon. We are gonna have to make a trip to Spartanburg to BMW Performance Center and drive some real "German Engineering." They don't call it the "Ultimate Driving Machine" for nothing.

I hope you had fun, great video sir!

docrock haha you and your VW argument. These cars could be made by Honda, they're still badass. :)

And yes, let's go to Spartanburg!

I love the Audi R8. I've watched the commercials for it about a thousand times, and I devour photos of it like crack. So, your photos made my morning. Hope you had a blast and thanks for sharing!

annedreshfield Thanks for the comment! Are you an Audi owner? I'll try to get the other guys from our group on here to add their comments!

johngarcia I'm not, though I seriously, seriously wish I was. I've looked at the A3 for future reference when I'm in the market to buy a new car, and my roommate owns one -- it's pretty fun to drive for having such a big butt. :) If I had the money, though, I'd look more seriously at the S4, the S5, and the R8. A girl can dream!

annedreshfield Very fun to drive and yes, it doesn't discriminate against butts of all sizes. :) S4 = sweet, S6 = sweet and you know what I think about the R8!
