We spent an afternoon hanging out with local band Kings of Spade and friends as they practiced for this Friday’s Amy Winehouse Tribute Concert, listening to the music and photographing this group of amazing local music talent. As I wandered with my camera between the lively practice room and the kitchen where singers and musicians were waiting their turns, I was inspired by Annie Leibovitz’s behind-the-scenes photos of the 1975 Rolling Stones tour, and decided my images would be black and white in classic rock-and-roll style. Check out their interview here, and enjoy the pictures!
Kings of Spade are headlining the Amy Winehouse tribute concert at NextDoor in Chinatown on Friday, Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. They will be paying tribute with some of the best soul artists in Hawaii, including The Bentos, Yoza, Kitty Chow, Makke, Candy Diaz, Taimane, Big Mox, Devon, and Ara Laylo. Tickets: $10, available at UH Campus Center and NextDoor.
