This weekend, the Blue Angels will be featured as part of the 2012 Kaneohe Bay Airshow held at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe. Gates open at 9:00 AM and the show is free to the public, though there is premium seating available for a fee.
The Blue Angels are the U.S. Navy’s flight demonstration squadron, and the second-oldest formal flying aerobatic team in the world. They are known for pushing the technical envelope of the aircraft they use, and for their precise formation flying.
While the Blue Angels are headlining the show, there will be several aerobatic performances throughout the day from military and civilian aircraft alike, in addition to helicopter insertions, skydiving, and a few other surprises!
The show is worth watching even if you’ve seen the Blue Angels before. All the performers are very impressive, and there are a few demonstrations have not been seen at previous Hawaii airshows. The airshow is a very family-friendly event, and bringing children is encouraged. There are concessions available (for scripts), and a large keiki game area.
Enjoy these photos I shot during the rehearsal for a preview of the show!
