nonstopmari ... it's best if you have a snifter of very good brandy, say Cardinal Mendoza, you sit relaxed, hopefully in a big leather chair with an ottoman, hold the brandy snifter in your left hand so the heat of the snifter warms it. Then take a sip, savor it, swallow. Exhale and then to the cigar. If they wudda had that back say when Siddharta Gautama was around, he would have had to redefine nirvana and he would have embraced 'thirst'

Maxcat LOL re the buddha! (i never LOL, i think it's way overused, btw, so i mean it.) brandy and a cigar wd have added a whole new dimension to his one grain of rice a day. which i mean in no way to disrespect the buddha or his teachings...

this is for me. great to find out about L.T.'s love of cigars. i always had imagined an event organized in HN, sponsored by Honolulu Time. it's been about two years since i smoked a cigar. i used to go to the Ritz Carlton's smokers and twice to Cigar Aficionado's Vegas Big Smoke Weekends. Alfred Dunhill used to sponsor a regular event in San Diego at Prego. cigar events are becoming scarce. i prefer to smoke under specific conditions: warm, humid, languid tropical weather. so Oahu on a no-trade winds day qualifies. that's probably because most of my cigar smoking took place in the Dominican Republic. i used to live and work there in Santiago. i was fortunate to tour the Fuentes estate and the production facilities. all this recalls a MOVIELINE: 'let the smoke of the tobacco lie on the palate'

Ed ... think you are now one of my favorite bloggers cuz I like cigars too. Not sure I grasp the whole concept here though ... I would understand a cigar before eating with an apertif or two. But, I would think lay off during the food and then go back to cigars after and then sip the Johnny Gold, digestifs or brandy ... then you can sait, relax and truly enjoy the cigar. At any rate thanks for this wonderful blog ... (am waiting for my next trip to Canada or Europe so I can have a Cuban or two or three ... there is just something special about the Cuban Cohibas)

the description of this experience -- scotch, cigars and meat -- is making me consider taking up cigars. i think i'm drawn to the pacing, since it sounds like smoking btwn bites forces u to be leisurely, reflective and wholly in the moment.
