First Thursdays Poetry Slam

The first First Thursday of the New Year gets the poetry slamming with National Poetry Slam Finalist Kane “Novakane” Smego. In addition to being a slam champ, Kane helped create and lead the Poetic Portraits of a Revolution project that traveled to Egypt and Tunisia to collect stories of the popular revolutions and broadcasted them as poems on NPR in 2011. Kealoha hosts the night, which includes live painting and music by DJ Mr. Nick.

Fresh Cafe; Thursday, Jan. 3 at 8:30 p.m.; $3 before 8:30 p.m. and $5 after; all ages
